Jill Furmanovsky is one of the UK’s best known and respected music photographers. The artists photographed in her 40+ year career include many of the biggest names in rock music: Pink Floyd, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, Blondie, The Police, Led Zeppelin, The Pretenders, Bob Dylan, and Oasis are but a few. She has also directed videos for Oasis and The Pretenders
Ian Berry – The English
For the first time in 40 years Lucy Bell Gallery exhibits over 50 black and white photographs by Magnum photographer Ian Berry from his long-term project ‘The English’. 50 black and white photographs by Magnum photographer Ian Berry on view at Lucy Bell Gallery. All photographs on show are for sale and have been specially printed by Ian Berry using the new digital techniques however there are some rare vintage prints also available to buy and view.
Kevin Cummins – Disclosure
“I don’t shoot for the gallery wall,” Kevin Cummins tells me. For an era-defining artist who’s about to have his work displayed in a retrospective travelling from Paris to London, that may seem an incongruous turn of phrase. Half an hour with the man behind the camera, however, and it makes more sense. The Mancunian photographer may have made it his life’s work taking gritty, defining images of bands from his hometown and beyond, and he may be being celebrated in Disclosure, an exhibition featuring some of his most iconic rock images from a career that’s spanned 40 years, but the man himself has never done his job with one eye on the resultant exhibition.
Fay Godwin – Colourworks
Fay Godwin Fay Godwin is regarded as one of this countries finest landscape photographers. She was a late starter who began taking photographs in her mid thirties, and published her first book at 45. A passionate walker – she was president of the Ramblers Association for three years, she campaigned for walkers rights of way, and her photographs have been used to draw attention to the detrimental effects that man has had on the environment.
Bruce Rae – Silvered Surfaces
Lucy Bell is proud to present an exhibition of new flower pictures by Bruce Rae, which are presented alongside his acclaimed series of shipbuilders which is currently also on exhibition at Side Gallery, in Newcastle. Renowned for his vintage techniques and sumptuous prints, Rae’s work is held in various collections including The National Portrait Gallery, The V&A, and The Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris.
Steven Berkoff – East End Photographs – Book
“The East End was changing rapidly and I felt I had to record it before it vanished forever – at the time however I did not realise quite how fast it would disappear. The area was largely Jewish and this made it fascinating, since the early immigrants came with an amazing pot-pourri of cultures from a score of different peoples.
